An Israeli woman from Ashkelon has succumbed to her injuries that she sustained during a barrage of rocket fire from Gaza last November.

Nina Gisdenanova,74, was in her apartment when one of the rockets directly hit the four-story building. Gisdenanova was seriously injured and was rushed to the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

After a ten-month battle to recover from her injuries, the elderly woman passed away.

“We offer sympathies to the Gisdenanova family from Ashkelon on the death of their mother, Nina, who was seriously injured in the last round of fighting that we had in the city,” the Ashkelon municipality said in a statement.

On November 13, more than three hundred rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza into southern Israel. The IDF said that although the Iron Dome air defense system intercepted most of the rockets, a good number of them still fell on Israeli cities and towns across southern Israel.

The IDF retaliated by bombing dozens of Hamas targets within the Gaza Strip, including a Hamas military intelligence center and the headquarters of al-Aqsa TV.

The deadly barrage of rockets came two days after an IDF special forces team went on a secret mission to either kill or capture a senior Hamas terrorist. Although driving in a civilian vehicle, the Israeli team was identified and engaged by the terrorists. The Israeli Air Force was then called in and eliminated seven terrorists from Hamas.

A special forces soldier, only known as “Lt. Col. M” was killed during the operation. The Lieutenant was posthumously awarded the Chief of the General Staff Citation for his heroic actions.

During the award ceremony, IDF Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi saluted his fallen comrade.

“I salute M. for this action. Only those who have been in such situations know what power, pressure and weight of decisions is placed on the shoulders and runs through the mind in such a moment,” he said.
