During an Arabic podcast that seemed unlikely to leak to Western audiences, Omar Barghouti confessed that the BDS movement actually seeks an end to the Jewish state.

While the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement frequently veils its anti-Israel mission in political language and euphemisms designed to sanitize its ultimate goal in front of Western audience, one of the group’s founders recently divulged his true aim during an Arabic podcast interview.

JNS reported on the interview this week, providing key quotes from Omar Barghouti’s comments that reveal a clear picture of the BDS movement’s true aims.

There won’t be any Zionist state like the one we speak about [in present-day Israel]. … The Palestinian minority will become a Palestinian majority of what is today called Israel,” said Barghouti, JNS reported

In the course of admitting his movement seeks to destroy Israel by eliminating its character as a Jewish state, Barghouti trotted out all of BDS’ favorite themes, from importing millions of descendants of Arabs who left Israel during the War of Independence to the lie that Israel is an “apartheid” state.

Barghouti and other members of the BDS movement gain traction in the Western world by couching their agenda in a way that hides its true goal.

For instance, Barghouti addressed a conference associated with the UK Labour Party in September where he spoke about “human rights” and “British state and non-state actors” using “a variety of methods to suppress the democratic mobilizing of those working for progressive causes.”

In reality, Barghouti uses these platforms to demonize and deligitimize Israel under the guise of advocating “policy change.”

According to watchdog group Canary Mission, Barghouti has “expressed support for terrorism, promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and regularly demonizes Israel. He opposes the Jewish right to self-determination and Israel’s existence.”
