The PA continues its anti-Semitic incitement, alleging that Israel conducts medical experiments on Palestinian prisoners and poisons them. These claims are clearly nothing but lies.
One of the ways that the Palestinian Authority (PA) demonizes Israel and challenges the Jewish state’s international legitimacy is by spreading libels of atrocities committed against the Palestinians. The PA repeatedly spreads malicious rumors and classic anti-Semitic slander.
One such lie, which has recently resurfaced, is the claim that Israel conducts medical experiments on Palestinian prisoners and poisons them to death, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.
In April, the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida accused Israel of carrying out medical experiments and speculated that it “perhaps” poisons them as well. “The occupation authorities [i.e. Israel] conduct medical experiments on the prisoners, giving them medicines and perhaps poison,” the article states.
Director of the PLO Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and PA Parliament Member Issa Karake, a chief anti-Semitic agitator, often reiterates this defamation. Recently, after visiting a released prisoner, Karake alleged that sick prisoners “are victims of severe crimes committed against prisoners, which expose them to deadly, chronic diseases resulting from secret medical experiments on their bodies and deliberate negligence.”
He also claimed on PA television that “[Israeli] prisons have become the source of an epidemic, a source of death and a source of dissemination of diseases in the bodies of the prisoners.”
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida claims that Israeli prisons have a system of “slow death” for prisoners and compared Israel’s treatment of inmates to the medical experiments conducted by infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele at the Auschwitz death camp.
According to the PA daily, “[There is] an entire system called ‘slow death,’ which the Israeli establishment uses against Palestinian prisoners, from the moment of their arrest until they are released…. The ‘experiments’ stage is perhaps one of the most dangerous stages in the slow death of released prisoners, who suffer from diseases, which they contracted in prison. This way, the Israeli jailers attempt to imitate the German Nazis, who were the first to use prisoners as guinea pigs for testing the weapons and deadly drugs that they developed. The Nazi German doctor, Josef Mengele, was the most famous among them.”
Palestinian Prisoners Contradict the False Allegations
PMW publicized statements by released Palestinian prisoners that clearly contradict these allegations. One former prisoner stated that Palestinian prisoners “lack nothing.” Another said that a typical day in prison is spent “chatting, talking, eating, drinking, joking and playing,” and relatives who visited said that they encountered no problems.

If there was any truth to the accusations, one would expect inmates and released prisoners to draw attention to such practices or to find a list of deceased prisoners who supposedly died under such circumstances. However, in 2011, when prisoners on a hunger strike released their demands, there was no mention of medical experiments or abuse. Indeed, their demands were all related to luxuries such as restoring satellite TV channels, sending video clips to their families, free medical and psychiatric care and educational opportunities, including matriculation examinations and university registration.
This was not the first time that these outrageous allegations have been made. Already several years ago, the PA claimed that then-Speaker of the Knesset Dalia Itzik affirmed that Israel conducts medical experiments on Palestinian prisoners. Reporting on this libel in 2008, PMW checked with Itzik, who denied ever making such a statement, and with the Ministry of Health. Both dismissed the claims.
