The Palestinian Authority is again blaming the U.S. for all of the Middle East’s ills, and especially for creating ISIS.
Nabil Shaath, a member of Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Central Committee, a former PA minister and senior negotiator with Israel, told the official PA TV that the problems in the Middle East stem from its “occupation” by the United States, MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) reports.
Shaath further asserted during the November 29 interview that just as the U.S. created Al-Qaeda to fight the Soviet Union, it also created the Islamic State (IS or ISIS) terror group to fight the Iraqi government.
Shaath lamented what he described as “the weakness and feebleness from which the Arabs suffer, because of their domestic problems, because of the American occupation of Iraq, and its ramifications for Iraq and Syria, and because of the American occupation of Afghanistan, which gave rise to Al-Qaeda, Taliban, and so on.”
Shaath further added that “the wars waged by the Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq have given rise to the main problems facing us today, not only in Iraq, but in Syria as well, and they pose a threat to Lebanon, Jordan, and everywhere else. The Americans created Al-Qaeda so that it would fight the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan, and created ISIS so that it would fight the government in Baghdad.”
America creates such evil and horror, Shaath said, and then “say[s] that the genie has come out of the bottle, and has become the main enemy that we must confront. Indeed, the Arabs are facing a problem, but this problem stems from the American occupation of our region. All we have got from this is the defects and problems with which we have to deal today.”

‘ISIS is US Created’ – A Recurring Theme
This is not the first time the Palestinian Authority has accused the U.S. of creating ISIS to generate instability in the Middle East.
The Palestinian Authority official daily published five articles over the summer accusing the U.S. of establishing ISIS, the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.
The articles claim that the US has a long-term goal of controlling the Arab-Muslim states by dividing them through conflict and wars. ISIS’ war and other conflicts are thus all attributed to US, PMW continues.
The PA’s official daily newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida wrote on July 16:
“The wars in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Palestine were planned by the US in order to protect its interests … The ISIS, Islamic Front, and Al-Nusra Front (i.e., all radical Islamists) are Muslims from various countries the US is using to fight in Iraq and Syria, in order to fragment the unity of these two Arab countries … We are now more aware that the Americans, who want to fight for their own interests using Islamic, Jewish and Christian believers, are truly the head of the snake.”
On July 14, PMW points out, the same newspaper wrote, “ISIS, the perpetrators of atrocities and the groups that hoist the banner of religion seem to be raising their weapons in sync with Washington, and fight the US verbally, but in practice are killing their enemies. Is this a coincidence, or was it planned ahead of time?” Similarly, on July 3, the paper stated, “The radical terrorists of ISIS and those like them, who were created by Israel and the US, are paving the way for Israel to act like them.”
As PMW reported in June, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida‘s current editor-in-chief was appointed by the presidential decree of PA head Mahmoud Abbas.
Sign the Petition to Stop Funding the Palestinian Authority
The Palestinian Authority incites, disseminates lies and openly supports and encourages terror attacks against the citizens of Israel. If there was any doubt before, it has been completely eliminated by this report and others like it.
It is an outrage that the United States continues to fund the PA. They are funding terror against itself and against Israel – plain and simple. Join us in demanding that the US stops funding Palestinian terror.
