To be passive about the rise of anti-Semitism is no longer an option, and it is ignorance to falsely rely upon the notion that the world will never allow a second Holocaust.
Anti-Semitism is on the rise yet again. Not even a century has passed since the Holocaust, the largest and most horrific mass genocide in history aimed at eviscerating Jewish existence from the world as we know it.
The world swore NEVER AGAIN. The world promised they would NEVER FORGET. Yet here we are, a mere 73 years later, witnessing a steady stream of anti-Semitic acts, politicians, and organizations.
Is humanity so dense that we collectively forget the cataclysmic events that led to the morbid slaughter of 6,000,000 Jewish souls? Was the extermination of two-thirds of European Jewry not perverted enough to impress upon the international community the imperative obligation of condemning any and all acts of anti-Semitism?
How is it that two openly anti-Semitic politicians, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tliab, sit on the Congress of the United States of America?
How is the United Nations so unfathomably corrupt that not only does it propel anti-Semitic narratives about Israel, the only Jewish state, but fails entirely to address the rapid and unabated increase of anti-Semitism throughout the world, especially Europe, the continent whose epic failure to protect Jewish human rights allowed for the empowerment of Nazi Germany?
Right before our eyes, right before the eyes of survivors of the barbaric and inhumane atrocities of the Holocaust, history repeats itself: Jewish cemeteries desecrated with swastikas, synagogues vandalized, and bakeries defaced with the word “Juden” in France; swastika graffiti appearing frequently in Poland, Amsterdam, Greece, and Spain; the British Labour Party’s Jeremy Corbyn, an outrightly anti-Semitic politician, who frequently and vehemently propagates anti-Semitic tropes and rhetoric, with alarmingly widespread support.
Dangerous Again to Be Jewish
In 2019, it is once again DANGEROUS to be Jewish in Europe. The rest of the world, whilst not nearly as dastardly, has not been very Jew-friendly either: anti-Semitic murals and Nazi graffiti cropping up in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami; Jewish professors being targeted at universities; Argentinian cemeteries vandalized, as well as a violent attack on the Chief Rabbi of Argentina; the BDS movement aggressively seeking to oppress Jewish and Israel affiliated organizations and students on college campuses across America.
The Jewish population no longer has the luxury of silence. It is imperative that each and every one of us speaks out. It is our duty to ensure that the notion of anti-Semitism become as abhorrent and intolerable to the international community as racism, homophobia, and Islamophobia.
To be passive about the rise of anti-Semitism is no longer an option, and it is ignorance to falsely rely upon the notion that the world will never allow a second Holocaust. Mankind has a short memory, and the Jews must be heard, lest, G-d Forbid, history repeats itself.
