The current wave of Arab terror in Israel’s capital continues as a terrorist stabbed an Israeli student in the Old City on Thursday.
Israeli security forces were successful on Friday in capturing an Arab terrorist who had stabbed an Israeli the previous evening with a screwdriver, moderately wounding him as he was exiting Jerusalem’s Old City.
The police apprehended the terrorist after the attack was documented by security cameras. Security forces launched a large-scale manhunt for the assailant, who was eventually captured in the vicinity.
The 21-year-old victim was hospitalized at Shaare Zedek hospital, with his condition registered as stable.
Dr. Ofer Merin, deputy director-general of Shaare Zedek and head of the trauma unit, told Arutz 7 that the victim was evacuated to the hospital “with a screwdriver stuck in his upper back, in moderate condition.” The screwdriver damaged the youth’s right lung.
A War Over Jerusalem
Jerusalem District Police Commander Moshe Edry said that he viewed this attack seriously, and that thanks to the security forces’ quick and professional action, the suspect was apprehended quickly. Edry added that police are in the process of broadening their security camera coverage, while working in conjunction with other security bodies to upgrade safety conditions for Jerusalem residents and tourists.
A similar attack occurred at the end of November when a gang of Arab terrorists assaulted, stabbed and wounded two Israelis in the Old City who had just exited a yeshiva. A 45-year-old man was stabbed in the chest, sustaining moderate wounds. The second victim, 32, was lightly wounded in his hand and neck. A third escaped without injury.
“Make no mistake; this is a religious war over the identity and ownership of Israel in general and of Jerusalem in particular,” Member of Knesset Yoni Chetboun stated after the attack.
