After his speech was briefly disrupted by Arab lawmakers, Pence received hearty applause and the first of many standing ovations during his historic address to the Knesset.
As expected, Arab members of Knesset, carrying signs reading “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine,” began making a ruckus when US Vice-President Mike Pence began his speech at the Israeli parliament Monday afternoon.
Ayman Odeh, chairman of the Arab Joint List, said that his 15 party members would boycott the speech in protest of President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last month.
Netanyahu said Sunday that he viewed it as a “disgrace that MKs intend to boycott this important visit to the Knesset and are even seeking to disrupt it. We will all be there and will show Vice President Pence the great respect that he is due.”
As security scooted the noisy protesters out, Pence received hearty applause and his first standing ovation of many.
