After a horrific mudslide in Brazil that buried hundreds of people alive, Israel was the only country to send soldiers halfway across the world to lend a hand and save lives.

On January 25, 2019, a dam near the city of Brumadinho, Brazil collapsed, releasing 11.7 million cubic meters of mudflow burying hundereds alive and leaving many more missing.

Comprised of 130 IDF soldiers, doctors, and a firefighters’ unit, the Israeli team worked ceaselessly to search for the living, bring dignity to the dead and comfort Brazilians experiencing the horrific disaster.

Maj. Rivka Cohen was a member of this brave delegation. Listen to her describe the mission and what was the most challenging part for her.
