United with Israel is proud to sponsor its 5th annual Chanukah party on an IDF base to honor the brave men and women who risk their lives to defend the citizens of Israel.

idf chanukah partyOn Tuesday evening, December 8, 2015, the third night of Chanukah, American and Israeli families will visit an IDF base in the Jerusalem area to celebrate Chanukah, say ‘thank you’ to Israeli soldiers and present them with special Chanukah gifts.

Jerusalem has become a primary target for stabbings, shootings and car-ramming attacks during the current wave of Palestinian terror. The IDF base hosting the party, Machane Ofer, is located just off route 443, between Givat Ze’ev and the Arab city of Ramallah. It is in the vicinity of several Arab villages known for being hotbeds of terror. This IDF base is home to special units involved in intelligence gathering about the operations of terrorist networks in the area and combat units that are trained to fight terror.

The event will feature music, dancing, a special Chanukah meal, sufganiot (jelly donuts), and the lighting of the Chanukah Menorah. The soldiers will light a truly amazing Menorah that was created from the remains of Hamas rockets that exploded in Israel. Nearly 20,000 rockets have been fired from Gaza since the second intifada in 2001. An Israeli artist has transformed these missiles of terror into something of unique beauty and light!

United with Israel with visit with several units on the military base, including a specialized tactical intelligence group. The unit’s main focus is collecting vital information on security issues via visual technology. They are known as “the eyes the army.”

We will also be meeting IDF soldiers of Pikud Ha Oref which is Israel’s home front command center. The main objective of this unit is to be the first line of rescue in any state emergency – whether it be in Israel or anywhere around the world.

The soldiers who will join us to celebrate Chanukah are stationed throughout different strategic points in the Jerusalem region. They include border patrol officers and monitors who track enemy movements, as well as superior fighting and counter-terrorism intelligence units.

The young men and women serving at this base form an integral part of Israel’s front line against terror and have helped to prevent numerous terror attacks against Israelis. They greatly deserve our expressions of thanks!

They are outside most of the day and get very cold in the winter, just like we all would!
