5 Rockets Fired at Sderot Area; IDF Warns Gazans of Counterstrike on Northern Gaza City

Two rockets fired by terrorists at Israel were intercepted, while others apparently hit open areas.

The IDF Arabic spokesman on Sunday evening issued an urgent statement calling on residents of northern Gaza City to evacuate their homes and move to shelters in the center of Gaza City.

The statement was issued following rocket fire from Gaza directed at the Israeli city of Sderot and surrounding areas.

Specifying the specific areas which must be evacuated, the IDF emphasized that these areas have repeatedly been used as rocket launching points by Hamas terrorists.

“For your safety, move immediately to shelters in the center of Gaza City,” the announcement warned.

Earlier, the IDF spokesman reported that about five rockets launched by terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip had crossed into Israeli territory. Two of the launches were intercepted, while the rest apparently fell in open areas.

Meanwhile, police explosives experts are currently operating at 3 sites in the city of Sderot where fragments of rockets and interceptors fell, Channel 14 reported, adding that there are no casualties at the sites.

The Israeli Air Force on Saturday downed two rockets launched by Palestinian terrorists in northern Gaza towards Jerusalem.

The attacks triggered air-raid sirens in the capital, the Western Negev and the Judean Foothills (the Shfela). There were no reports of injuries.

Overnight, IAF fighter jets targeted the launchers involved in Saturday’s rocket attack, supported by firepower from the 933rd “Nahal” Brigade operating in the Strip.

“The targeted launchers contained a rocket ready for launch towards Israel,” the IDF said on Sunday morning. “Following the strike, a rocket was observed being fired from the launch site.”
