The oldest complete stone tablet of the Ten Commandments, dating back over 1,500 years to the late Roman-Byzantine period, is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s New York on December 18.

Inscribed in Paleo-Hebrew and weighing 115 pounds, the marble tablet was discovered during railway excavations in Israel in 1913, though its significance went unrecognized for decades.

Uniquely featuring nine of the 10 commandments, with the third replaced by a directive to worship on Mount Gerizim, this rare artifact is expected to fetch between $1 and $2 million.
