Kent State University must take immediate action against Professor Nader Taha for using his platform to glorify violence and promote antisemitism.
In a December 13, 2024, sermon, Taha called the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel a series of “miracles” that fulfilled divine promises to humiliate the Children of Israel.
He further praised Gaza for planting the “seed of freedom” for the world.

This is not the first time Taha has spread such rhetoric. In a November 10, 2023, sermon, he described the Al-Aqsa Mosque as “disgraced” and called the October 7 attackers liberators who answered a divine call.
These inflammatory statements glorify acts of terror that resulted in the murder of over 1,400 Israelis and the capture of innocent hostages, including women and children, still suffering in Hamas captivity.
Adding to the outrage, Taha has a prominent role in local interfaith initiatives and previously served on County Executive Ilene Shapiro’s advisory council for diversity and inclusion.
His hateful words betray the trust placed in him as a community leader and educator, creating a hostile environment for Jewish students and faculty.
Kent State cannot ignore this affront to its values of respect, diversity, and safety. Academic freedom does not protect incitement to hatred or violence.

Subject: Urgent: Condemn Imam Nader Taha’s Antisemitic Sermons
Dear President Diacon,
I am writing to express my outrage over Imam Nader Taha’s sermons glorifying violence and spreading antisemitism.
Referring to the October 7 attacks as “miracles” and invoking divine promises to “humiliate” the Children of Israel is unacceptable. Such rhetoric glorifies terror, endangers Jewish students and faculty, and tarnishes the values of Kent State University.
I strongly urge the university to publicly condemn these remarks, investigate whether Taha’s actions violate university policies, and take immediate disciplinary action.
Kent State must reaffirm its commitment to a safe and inclusive environment for all students and faculty.
Sincerely,
