Oberlin College has sunk to a shocking new low, offering a course titled “Jews and Power” that blatantly perpetuates antisemitic stereotypes.
This disgraceful class, taught by Assistant Professor Matthew Berkman—a vocal anti-Israel activist with deep ties to the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement—represents nothing less than an assault on the Jewish community under the guise of academia. This must end!

The course description itself is deeply problematic, framing the “Jewish relationship to power” in a way that reinforces malicious tropes.
It perpetuates the narrative that Jews wield undue influence or are perpetual victims—both key elements of antisemitism.
No other minority group is subjected to such overt stereotyping in Oberlin’s curriculum. Substituting any other group into the title and description would result in immediate outrage and likely legal consequences.
This is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern. Berkman, who is affiliated with groups like Jewish Voice for Peace and champions BDS, has a documented history of demonizing Israel and the Jewish people.
These groups have been widely criticized for their antisemitic rhetoric and actions, including promoting the falsehood that Zionism is inherently racist.
Offering a course about “Jews and Power” not only harms Jewish students; it emboldens bigotry on campus and beyond.
Oberlin College must remove this disgraceful course immediately. Demand accountability and an end to this institutionalized antisemitism!

Subject: Oberlin Must Cancel Antisemitic Course
Dear President Carmen Twillie Ambar,
I am appalled that Oberlin College is offering a course titled “Jews and Power,” which perpetuates harmful antisemitic stereotypes by framing Jews as either victims or wielders of outsized influence.
This course, taught by Matthew Berkman—a known anti-Israel activist—legitimizes bigotry and creates a hostile environment for Jewish students.
No other minority group is subjected to such blatant stereotyping in Oberlin’s curriculum, and this double standard appears to violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
I demand that you to cancel this course immediately and ensure that Oberlin upholds the principles of equality and respect for all.
Sincerely,
