Dr. Zeev Feldman, chairman of the State Physicians Organization, sent a personal letter to all government ministers and members of the Israeli Knesset, highlighting the necessity of immediate release of all the hostages still in Gaza.

“All are in humanitarian condition, all must be released and now – otherwise this is a death sentence!” he wrote.

He mentioned that medical findings from the three hostages released this past Saturday – Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy – show bodily harm resulting from severe abuse, torture, and deliberate, prolonged starvation by Hamas terrorists. The testimonies of those who returned reveal that throughout their captivity, they were kept only in tunnels under harsh conditions, brutally tortured, starved, and thrown into solitary confinement for long periods, sometimes being brought to the brink of death.

“Therefore, as a doctor and a human being, I turn to you and other decision-makers and say clearly and unequivocally: The flawed conception that led to agreeing to a phased deal and separating between ‘humanitarian’ and ‘non-humanitarian’ cases collapsed on Saturday,” Feldman said.

His comments come in the wake of widespread outrage at the poor condition of the three hostages upon their release, with US President Donald Trump on Sunday noting “they looked like Holocaust survivors.”

“They were in horrible condition, they were emaciated… and I don’t know how much longer we can take that.”

A day later, after Hamas said it would delay the release of the next round of hostages “until further notice,” Trump issued an ultimatum, saying, “As far as I’m concerned, if all of the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock—I think it’s an appropriate time—I would say, cancel it and all bets are off and let hell break out.”

“I’d say they ought to be returned by 12 o’clock on Saturday,” he told reporters. “And if they’re not returned—all of them, not in drips and drabs, not two and one and three and four and two–by Saturday at 12 o’clock. And after that, I would say, all hell is going to break out.”

Ultimately, however, he said the decision belongs to Israel: “We want them all back. I’m speaking for myself. Israel can override it.”
