In the nursery ward of Ashdod’s Assuta Medical Center on Wednesday evening, Noam Levy lit the first Chanukah candle alongside the military doctor who saved his life on the battlefield.

The choice of the nursery for the ceremony carried a symbolic weight, blending the promise of new life with the stark realities of war. Major Dr. A., who provided lifesaving care to Levy and coordinated his emergency evacuation, shared the moment’s meaning.

“Chanukah reminds us that the few can overcome the many and that light can emerge from darkness. Seeing Noam here, lighting a candle in a nursery, reflects the values we fight for: life, hope, and resilience,” said Major Dr. A.
