Israeli emergency response experts are sharing their know-how in India, teaching others how to save lives.
Leading experts in emergency response from Israel arrived in India to train the country’s first responders and lay people.
Magen David Adom (MDA) and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) are holding a joint project to train volunteers, including school children, in first-aid, the Hindustan Times reported last week. MDA is world-renown for its quick response times.
MDA trainers are holding a special workshop on community basic first aid, introducing the IRCS to methods and techniques that were developed and are practiced in Israel. Together, MDA and IRCS are adapting these approaches to meet local needs.
“This mission between India and Israel is an initiative to train the community in providing first aid during emergencies, natural disasters and accidents and to teach life-saving skills that will save precious lives,” said Dr Vanshree Singh, director of the IRCS blood bank.
“It’s a day-long training program and once the candidates are assessed by experts from Israel, they get master trainer certificate that makes them eligible to train their peers. The volunteers are neither doctors, nurses nor paramedics, rather laypersons; we call them lay lecturers.”
Volunteers are trained in bandaging wounds, stopping bleeding, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including CPR on babies, and other first-aid skills.
Israel remains a world leader in emergency response, with much of its knowledge accumulated due to wave after wave of Palestinian terrorism. With this knowledge, Israeli experts help train emergency responders around the globe.
