Israeli security forces operating in the Jenin refugee camp arrested a Palestinian terror operative on Wednesday.

A statement released by the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) identified the Palestinian as Muhammad Nagangia, a terror operative in the Fatah-aligned Tanzim militia and resident of the camp.

Nagangia is linked to a number of shooting attacks in Judea and Samaria. He was handed over to the Shin Bet for questioning.

Palestinians shot at the Israeli forces, who returned fire. No Israelis were injured.

The counter-terror operation was the second in the camp this week.

In Monday’s incursion, the IDF said it arrested three Hamas terror suspects identified as Abdullah Hassan Muhammad Zubah, Wared Ashrin and Mu’atsam Jaaitza.

Zubah, the most senior of the three, is wanted for his role in a series of shooting attacks, bomb attacks and car bombs. He was also behind many of the attempts in recent months to launch rockets from Jenin toward Israeli communities.

In July, the military carried out a major counterterrorism operation in the city of Jenin, including the Jenin refugee camp, which Palestinians have dubbed “the Martyr’s Capital.” The IDF uncovered laboratories for producing bombs, a rocket launcher and other weapons.

After the July operation, Dr. Emmanuel Navon, a professor of political science at Tel Aviv University and a Senior Fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, told the Tazpit Press Service he expected the IDF to operate in the refugee camp more frequently.

“The concept of mowing the lawn is that often, the IDF has to act either in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] or in the Gaza Strip to fight terrorist organizations. But it doesn’t mean of course that as a result of the operation, the terror goes away. It keeps growing back. It’s like grass and they need to mow it again and again,” he explained in July.

Meanwhile, Israeli security forces arrested nine Palestinian terror suspects in raids around Judea and Samaria on Tuesday night. Suspects were arrested in the Al Aroub refugee camp near Hebron, and in the villages of Nahalin, Bayt Rima, Sa’ir, Abu Dis and Surif.
