Saeb Erekat, chief Palestinian negotiator in talks with Israel and a possible successor to Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas, has equated Israel’s government with the Islamic State (ISIS) and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Speaking at the 16th Doha Forum in Qatar on Sunday, Erekat compared what he called the “right-wing extremism” of Netanyahu with that of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Al-Jazeera reported.

“What is the difference between one who calls himself the leader of the Jewish state, and another who calls himself as the leader of the Islamic State,” he said.

“The two-state solution is the only possible solution that would put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people,” he added.

He called for “international backing to force Israel to end its decades-old takeover of Palestinian lands.”

Erekat, notorious for his anti-Israel rhetoric, has made it a habit to equate Israel with one of the worst terror organizations in history.

There is “no difference between the terrorism practiced by Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi’s gang [ISIS] and Israeli terrorism,” Erekat stated on PA TV in February 2015.
