Three Border Policemen were lightly wounded Saturday while chasing after a car carrying Palestinians who had entered Israeli-controlled territory illegally.

Security forces on Saturday afternoon noticed two Palestinians crossing into Israeli-controlled territory and entering a waiting vehicle just outside a military base near the city of Maale Adumim, east of Jerusalem.

A group of Border Policemen began chasing the vehicle, which was headed towards the capital. Held up in a traffic jam, three police exited their car and began running towards the suspects, who in turn drove into reverse in an apparent attempt to hit the officers.

They hit another vehicle before ramming hard into the police car. In the ensuing gunfire, three Palestinians were wounded and taken to Jerusalem hospitals. According to Ynet, “two of them, a 14-year-old with a gunshot wound and a 40-year-old with bruising in his jaw, were taken to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center. The third, suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach, was taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in the capital.”

Three wounded Border Policemen, aged 21, 29 and 43, were also taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem, suffering light injuries.

Jerusalem police believe that the Palestinians were transferring illegal workers and trying to evade capture.

In light of the current wave of Palestinian terror, Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan recently introduced amendments to the Law of Entry, which regulates permits for Palestinian workers.
