Lt. Col. Liron Donal warns of escalating tensions in the north, emphasizing the potential for intensive warfare disrupting essential services.

As tensions escalate in the north, Lt. Col. Liron Donal, head of the headquarters of the Home Front Command, paints a sobering picture of what such a war might entail. The war would be intensive fire and a concerted effort by the enemy to disrupt essential services.

“The war will not look like Gaza – mainly in terms of the extent of the fire and the enemy’s desire to paralyze essential functions in the economy. This could also mean that citizens will have to stay in protected areas for a long period of time.

“We must prepare for a situation where the enemy tries to disrupt the supply of our services such as electricity, water and food. It is also at the national level, but it is no less important at the personal level for citizens to prepare, his family.” Shares Lt. Col. Liron Donal.

For many, this poses a daunting challenge, particularly those already struggling to make ends meet.

According to Aryeh Lurie, founder of Yad Ezra V’Shulamit this is impossible for the poor people living in the north. “The people we help don’t have enough money for food for the week. How can they buy supplies for an emergency?

“We have to help them. We have to buy, prepare, and stock warehouses of food – in our warehouses in the north so our 15 trucks can get everyone food to survive the war,” Lurie explained.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit normally distributes 12,000 food baskets weekly in 93 cities throughout Israel. Since Oct 7th, they have sent 100 additional trucks of food to families in cities under fire and soldiers on the front line as well as financially helping 10,000 evacuees.

And on top of it all, it’s Passover! So many thousands of ‘new poor’ need help because of the effects of the war. Evacuees, people who lost their jobs and incomes, women whose husbands are fighting. We have 62,000 requests for Pesach food boxes across Israel.

“We are turning to our brothers and sisters and those who care about Israel all over the world to help us fight this war. You see what is going on, and what we are up against. This is a war for our very survival.

“Everyone who cares about Israel, please open your hand and heart and send money for food, water, and basic supplies for those who can’t prepare for themselves and are under attack – and for our precious soldiers.”
