Tuesday morning, Islamists in Gaza sent a barrage of over 50 rockets towards Southern Israel. Some of them succeeded to inflict harm. At 12:21pm, a rocket landed next to a home in Sderot, causing some damage to the house. Around 10:41am, a house in Be’ersheva suffered a direct hit from a rocket. Shortly before that, a reserve soldier was seriously injured by shrapnel from a Hamas rocket in Eshkol. Around 7:30am, some 18 rockets were fired at Be’ersheva, resulting in a building being directly hit and damage being caused to cars and a bus. 10 people were treated for anxiety and the bus driver suffered injuries.

Around midnight, four rockets were fired towards Ofakim and approximately two hours later, sirens were sounded in Ashkelon, Sderot, the Be’er Tuvia Regional Council, Kiryat Gat and Sha’ar HaNegev. Monday evening, another school was hit in Ashkelon. Ashkelon Mayor Benny Vaknin told Yedioth Achronot that the rocket penetrated the schools roof and “tore apart an entire classroom. Hundreds of shards of metal were scattered in the schools yard.” Earlier on Monday, a man was wounded when shrapnel hit his car in the Bnei Shimon Regional Council.

In total, since the conflict has started, Magen David Adom reported that they have dealt with 252 causalities. Out of these, three have been killed and 21 have been injured as a result of falling shrapnel. According to the Israel Defense Forces, over one million Israelis are currently living under rocket fire and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that over 900 rockets have been fired at Israel since Operation Pillar of Defense began. The Iron Dome has intercepted over 300 rockets.

In the midst of all of this, residents of Southern Israel continue to attempt to live normal lives. Israel’s Channel 2 reported that in Be’ersheva, a couple is getting married Tuesday night inside a bomb shelter. The couple asserted that Hamas will not stop them from celebrating their wedding and their families are coming down from Tel Aviv and other less affected areas to be with them. The bride asserted, “We’ll remember this for the rest of our lives.” Another Be’ersheva resident declared that she plans on going out with friends tonight to celebrate her birthday, despite the rocket attacks, for she doesn’t want Hamas terrorism to win.
