Israeli officials slammed the Swedish foreign minister for attempting to create a link between the Islamic terror in Paris and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom sparked outrage by linking the Islamic terror attacks in Paris with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and indirectly placing responsibility for the horrific attacks on Israel.

“To counteract the radicalization we must go back to the situation such as the one in the Middle East of which not the least the Palestinians see that there is no future: we must either accept a desperate situation or resort to violence,” Wallstrom stated in a Swedish-language TV interview aired after the Friday night terror attacks in the French capital.

Wallstrom’s Remarks ‘Appallingly Impudent’

“The Swedish foreign minister’s statements are appallingly impudent. The Swedish foreign minister has consistently demonstrated bias against Israel and exhibits genuine hostility when she indicates a connection of any kind between the terrorist attacks in Paris and the complex situation between Israel and the Palestinians,” a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated on Monday.

Swedish ambassador Karl-Gustav Nesser was summoned “urgently” by MFA Director-General Dr. Dore Gold for clarification.

“Whoever fatuously attempts to create a link between radical Islamist attacks and the current problems between Israel and the Palestinians is fooling himself, his people and international public opinion,” the statement read.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said that Wallstrom’s remarks revealed “blatant and vile anti-Semitism.”

History of Swedish Anti-Israel Bias

“Sweden condemns all acts of terrorism,” the Swedish embassy said in an attempt to deny that Wallstrom had drawn any link between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the “tragic events in Paris.”

Sweden has a history of anti-Israel bias. In October 2014, Swedish Prime Minister-elect Lofven stated recognition of the “State of Palestine” during his inaugural address in parliament. Then, too, the Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish ambassador.

“It is unfortunate that the Swedish government chose to adopt a declarative measure that can cause much damage and bring no benefit,” then-Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman stated at the time. “The Swedish government must understand that relations in the Middle East are more complex than one of Ikea’s flat-pack pieces of furniture, and would do well to act with greater sensitivity and responsibility.”

Palestinians Directly Blame Israel

Wallstrom’s outrageous statements were topped by the Palestinian Authority, which, while condemning the Paris terror attacks, blamed Israel directly and equated the Jewish State with the Islamic State.
