A Jerusalem family has discovered a perfectly-preserved ritual bath under their living room, providing evidence of Jewish settlement during the Second Temple period.

A 2,000-year-old mikvah (ritual bath) was discovered below a living room floor during home renovations carried out in the picturesque Jerusalem neighborhood of Ein Karem, Israel’s Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced.

The ritual bath, which remains complete and is quite large, is rock-hewn and meticulously plastered. Archaeologists found traces of fire that might constitute evidence of the Roman destruction that took place in 66-70 CE. This is further proof that Jerusalem is the rightful capital city of Israel.
