Mikey, the Alsatian, was on the verge of completing her military service when she sustained catastrophic injuries in Gaza from a Hamas grenade. As a search and rescue dog in Israel’s elite Oketz special forces unit, she suffered severe wounds to her face, body, and legs.

Veterinary surgeons performed surgeries to address her injuries, including the removal of an eye, treatment for shrapnel in her ears, pneumonia in her lungs, and a broken leg. Unfortunately, the damage to her brain initially indicated that Mikey would never walk again, and there were concerns about her survival.

However, the nine-year-old Alsatian experienced a remarkable recovery, becoming the world’s first dog to undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Brave IDF war dog Mikey defied the odds with a ‘miracle’ recovery after being hit by a Hamas grenade.
