Yehia Ben Yosef, the last remaining Jew in Yemen, was laid to rest by his Arab and Muslim neighbors, who took it upon themselves to ensure he received a proper burial.

This solemn event marks the end of an era for the Jewish community in Yemen, a community that once flourished but has now vanished. Over the years, escalating persecution, violence, and systemic discrimination forced all other Yemenite Jews to flee the country in search of safety and freedom.

Their exodus, driven by the relentless threats to their lives and religious freedom, has left a profound void. Ben Yosef’s passing symbolizes not just the loss of an individual but the heartbreaking conclusion of Jewish presence in Yemen, a land they had called home for centuries.
