Israeli doctors are combating blindness in developing Africa.

Across Africa, Israeli doctors in mobile hospitals are giving the gift of sight to those who have almost lost it.

In Western countries, cataract removal is a treatable procedure. In the developing world, cataracts often end with blindness.

Israel’s MASHAV – Agency for International Development Cooperation – has established eye camps in which Israeli doctors perform a procedure that restores their sight.

Ambassador Gil Haskel, the head of MASHAV, said that “they come in blind, and within 30 minutes of treatment they have full vision. Once they open their eyes, the first thing they see in front of them is an Israeli doctor and an Israeli flag, and that is always very heartwarming,” according to the Jerusalem Post.
