Many people love Israel, but David decided to give his life for the Jewish people. At the ripe old age of 18, he came to by himself to serve in the Israel Defense Forces.
He packed all his enthusiasm and devotion with him as he entered the armed forces. He loyally did whatever was asked of him and built a cadre of lifetime friends with his fellow soldiers.
Then came the holidays. His family was 8,000 miles away. He suddenly felt the pain of being alone in Israel. He decided to make his own Rosh HaShanah dinner and invite friends.
A soldier’s salary didn’t allow for such things. Someone contacted Yad Ezra V’Shulamit requesting food for the Lone Soldiers program to help those who needed food for the holidays. Little did David know, the caring donors abroad sent money for him to receive a food voucher for a local store.
He was so touched by the gift, he almost cried.
“I’m happy I came and I’m happy to serve. Sometimes when I’m off duty it is hard to be alone. These food vouchers made me feel like someone cares”.
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit sends hundreds of lone soldiers in Israel food vouchers for Rosh Hashanah and Passover, as well as a monthly food package of snacks to help them feel appreciated, loved and to make their lives a little bit sweeter.
Join in us providing all the “Davids” – the lone soldiers serving in Israel with the means to purchase extra food they need when they are on a break from the army.
