Jamie Geller, “Queen of Kosher”, bestselling author and kosher chef, goes out of the kitchen and into Israel’s reality.

With all of her success, she has now turned to helping Israel’s nonprofits such as Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, to help feed hungry children and families in Israel.

Jamie’s love for Jewish children in Israel led her to Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. She recently visited their distribution warehouse in Jerusalem and learned the craziest thing.

“There are one million Israeli children without enough to eat. Today. In 2022. One million Israeli children are hungry. Let that sink in. Today, I sent off my kids to school with their bellies and backpacks full of food and snacks! Our dinner table is always laden with a hot meal. I’m sure your home is similar. Shocking though it may be, not everyone has this luxury, the blessing of food.

“Children in Israel are our children. Just like I give my kids food and don’t worry if they are hungry, we all have to do something to make sure there are no hungry children in Israel. Aryeh Lurie, the founder of Yad Ezra V’Shulamit says he can’t sleep at night knowing a Jewish child is hungry. I feel that. Shouldn’t we all feel that way?”

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit has been dedicated to feeding Israel’s hungry children and families for the last 30 years. They are the largest organization in all of Israel feeding Israel’s needy. They attempt to feed the 1 in 3 children who are hungry.

Every week, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit gives out 10,000 food baskets. For Rosh Hashana that number shoots up to 55,000 baskets!

As Jamie mentions, “The Rosh Hashanah baskets are a Jewish mother’s dream. The baskets contain what we would want for our own families to feed our children – with challah, honey, grape juice, chicken, vegetables, fruit (apples of course!), rice, noodles – everything a family needs to make their holiday meal respectable and sweet.”

With $120, we can prepare a basket for a small family. With $150, a basket for a large family. So please, give whatever you can. Be a part of this mitzvah! To donate, click here.
