A new Israeli algorithm helps pilots avoid engine failure and guides them to safe landings when technical problems endanger flights.
A brand new technology pioneered at Israel’s Technion Institute helps pilots monitor planes’ trajectories to see if they are losing altitude and whether foreign objects such as flocks of birds may obstruct the flight path.
The technology also includes an algorithm that finds the best strips for emergency landings and charts a course to reach them for pilots under the intense pressure that such crises generate.
This groundbreaking research was supported by the Israeli Ministry of Defense and can be adapted to different types of aircraft from conventional planes to drones.
