IDF forces training in the Golan Heights

What would Washington’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights mean for both Israel and the US? Would anything change?

In 1981, Israel’s parliament recognized the Golan Heights as being under Israeli sovereignty — after capturing the territory in the Six Days War from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War, when the surrounding Arab nations, including Syria, attacked the Jewish state.

Now, the Israeli government is pressing the U.S. to recognize the land as Israeli territory, but the international community still sees it as “occupied.”

What would that recognition mean for Israel? What would it mean for the US?
