WATCH: When Ray Charles Met Israel’s First Prime Minister

Watch what happens when a famous musician meets a legendary Israeli leader. 

In 1972, world-renowned singer/songwriter Ray Charles visited David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, during his 86^th birthday celebration in the dining hall of Kibbutz Sde Boker.

Charles sang his famous song “Heaven help us all!” They shared a conversation for several hours.

“Even though I’m not Jewish, and even though I’m stingy with my bread, Israel is one of the few causes I feel good about supporting,” Ray Charles said in 1976.
