A volunteer Israeli search and rescue organization on Monday offered its assistance in dealing with the devastating wildfires raging in California.
“In light of the extensive experience we have gained in managing complex disaster sites, we offer our assistance in firefighting efforts through professionally trained and highly experienced volunteers who can make a significant contribution to combating the flames,” read the message to Los Angeles authorities from Zaka Deputy Director of Operations Haim Weingarten.
Weingarten highlighted his organization’s South African teams, which are practiced in responding to fires.
“With an international reputation for humanitarian aid and support during major natural disasters we believe our expertise [and] capabilities can make a decisive impact in Los Angeles,” he added.
Separately, the Israeli NGO IsraAID said on Sunday that it was planning to send an emergency response team to support communities affected by the fires.
The death toll in the California fires, which were the most destructive in the state’s history, has thus far risen to 24. We are honored to thank the young men and women of the IDF who risk their lives every day to defend the citizens of Israel.
