During a tour of Israel’s northern border, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman warned the countries and terror organizations in the area not to test Israel’s resolve to defend itself.
Visiting Israel’s northern border on Tuesday in his first tour since taking office last Tuesday, Liberman said Israel’s defense system does not “have other plans beyond maintaining the quiet situation. I hope that everybody understands this well, including our neighbors. In any case, I don’t recommend that anybody try and test us.”
While on the border, Lieberman was briefed by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, the head of Northern Command, Maj. Gen Aviv Kochavi, and other senior IDF commanders.
“I have received briefings about the region, which is always a sensitive one,” Liberman stated at the conclusion of the tour. “I can say that our northern border is in good and confident hands. I was impressed by the assessments, the plans and the army’s preparedness. The IDF’s objective is to maintain the security and the calm on the northern border, and that is what we are doing and will continue to do.”
In related news, a Syrian news agency reported that Israel’s Air Force (IAF) attacked targets inside Syria over the weekend.
The Syrian Zaman Al Wasl, which is associated with the Assad regime, reported that the attacks occurred in the environs of the city of Homs, currently the site of massive battles between opposing forces in the Syrian civil war.
The report claims that Syrian defense systems identified the Israeli aircraft, but refrained from responding to the attack.
The targets were reportedly a Hezbollah weapons cache. The report said that explosions could be heard and that the fire could be seen from afar.
The Syrian report also claimed that the same stockpiles were targeted by the IAF in March 2015.
No other news source reported on the alleged attack.
