On Tuesday evening, Israeli troops in the air and on the ground pounded Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli mounted the strikes because Hamas has permitted a renewed wave of arson attacks on southern Israel that rely on the use of balloons to deliver incendiary devices and start massive fires.

In the past, the cells that launched these operations were directed by Hamas. The comlete extent of the terror group’s involvement in the current round of arson attacks remains unknown.

“The Hamas terrorist organization bears responsibility for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip, and will bear the consequences of terrorist acts against Israeli citizens,” said the IDF in an official statement.

Israeli tanks, fighter jets, and helicopters mounted the counterstrike on Tuesday, which is the third such mission in the last week or so.

Gazan terrorists caused around 60 fires in areas surrounding the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, TPS reported, which represents an unprecedented spike in this type of attack.

In addition to the counterstrikes, Israel has responded by sealing the Kerem Shalom crossing into the Strip.

In addition to balloon arson, Gazans shot at Israeli workers constructing the security barrier on Sunday, but failed to injure anyone.
