The IDF stated Monday that the Israeli military “discussed operational and technological challenges” and future collaborations between Israel and Japan in cyber, technology and defense.

As part of that effort, Rear Admiral Akira Ichida, Head of J6 at the Japanese Ministry of Defense, hosted IDF Brigadier Gen. Yariv Nir, IDF Chief Signal Officer, in Tokyo last week.

In recognition of meeting, the IDF tweeted in Japanese, “Building a strong future together,”

The J6 Directorate is tasked with cyber and technology-related warfare.

Israel and Japan in recent years have strengthened their ties, especially in the area of tech start-ups and defense.

In September, a new Israel-Japan defense agreement was signed in a festive ceremony at the Tokyo Defense Ministry.

The agreement was signed following discussion between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and after subsequent meetings between the head of Japan’s National Security Council and head of the Israeli NSC Meir Ben Shabbat.

Netanyahu welcomed the agreement as a move that will “deepen and strengthen security relations between the countries. We brought the Israel-Japan relations to an all-time high.”
