According to the report, Dina Ovadia, an Egyptian Jew who made aliyah a decade ago, was stripped of her citizenship by Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Sunday.

An Egyptian woman had her citizenship revoked after immigrating to Israel and serving in the IDF, Israel’s Army Radio reported on Monday.

According to the report, Dina Ovadia, an Egyptian Jew who made “aliyah” a decade ago, was stripped of her citizenship by Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Sunday.

In a statement from Ismail’s office it was explained that Ovadia had joined a foreign army without asking for permission from the Egyptian defense minister, and therefore her citizenship was being canceled, Army Radio said.

Ovadia, 24, made aliyah from Alexandria with her family and served in the IDF Spokesman’s unit.

Army Radio posted a video clip of a broadcast on Egypt’s El Balad TV, in which veteran Al Ahram journalist Ahmed Moussa reported the story live and went after both Ovadia and Israel.

“Today she is part of the Zionist entity, a racist entity that kills our Palestinian nation; an entity that still occupies and steals lands,” Moussa said.

Ovadia declined to be interviewed by Army Radio, but one Twitter user posted the following response to the story (in Hebrew):

“Dina Ovadia refused to be interviewed by Army Radio about the story. In the past she said: ‘I would like to return there [to Egypt] in uniform to show them that we [Israeli soldiers] are not murderers.’”
