In 2007, then-U.S. President George Bush addressed the consequences of withdrawing from Iraq before the mission was accomplished. His warning now seems prophetic.
Then-U.S. President Bush, already in 2007, had warned against a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, saying: “It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to al Queda. It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale.”
“It would mean we’d allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan,” he stated.
The withdrawal began in June 2009 and was completed by December 2011.
What we need to ask ourselves now is: Why did leaders not heed the warning?
Recently, Secretary of State John Kerry linked the Israeli-Arab conflict with the Islamic State (IS or ISIS). As well, other politicians have flat-out blamed Israel for creating the ISIS.
Can we reasonably blame or even link Israel with the rise of ISIS? Here is President Bush from 2007 with his eerily accurate statement:
