Stevie Van Zandt, guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s band and an actor, slammed supporters of anti-Israel boycotts in a tweet that set off a storm of responses.

Responding to a tweet on Monday that said that Van Zandt and Springsteen were in the “apartheid business” and supported the “rogue state of Israel” because of their rumored intentions to hold a concert in Israel in the coming summer, Van Zandt responded by saying that Israel boycotters are “politically ignorant obnoxious idiots.”

“Israel is one of our two friends,” the star stated.

His tweet set off a flurry of replies.

One responder thanked Van Zandt for “standing up to these morons. Too bad other public figures don’t have the balls.”

Van Zandt tweeted again after that “in the Middle East. In addition to the fact that a boycott in that case would accomplish nothing. Go get educated.”

Rumors have been circulating that Springsteen and the E-Street Band would include a concert in Tel Aviv as part of their European tour, but a show was never confirmed or announced and Springsteen’s tour, beginning next week, seems to be finalized.

Social media has often been the battleground for pro- and anti-Israel advocates.

Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik waged a vicious battle against anti-Israel activists who assailed her for her pro-Israel and Zionist views.
