Despite US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz’s recent appeal to Israelis to support the Iran nuclear deal, he now concedes that Washington expects a rise in terror as a result of the agreement.

Appearing last Thursday in a webcast sponsored by the Jewish Federations of North America and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz acknowledged that the Iran nuclear deal will increase global terrorism.

As explained by Jonathan Tobin of Commentary magazine, “Moniz’s admission provides critics of the nuclear deal with a startling admission that backs up their claims that the massive influx of cash into the ayatollahs’ coffers will enable it to increase their support of Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists who are preparing for a war [against] the nation Iran has targeted for elimination: Israel.”

Most importantly, says Tobin, “it debunks the notion that Iran is moderating and won’t take advantage of the pact to undermine the interests of the US and its allies.”

Moniz, speaking to visiting Israeli journalists early last week as part of the Obama administration’s attempt to gain support for the deal, claimed that the deal would not threaten Israel’s existence. “If I were Israeli, I would support the nuclear deal,” Moniz stated.

“If I were American, I would oppose the agreement,” Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, who was entrusted with the Iran portfolio, asserted the following day.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly warned of the dangers inherent in the deal.

“It is a deal that leaves Iran in possession of the capability to arm itself with nuclear weapons, that fills its coffers with a lot of money and that not only enables it to continue its terrorism and aggression in the Middle East and around the world, but does not even demand that it stop doing so,” he stated in April in an address to the Police Academy.

Immediately after the signing of the framework agreement on March 31, Israel’s Channel 2 already reported an uptick in weapons shipments from Iran to Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as attempts to arm Hamas activists in Judea and Samaria.

Sign the Petition to Stop a Nuclear Iran

The US Congress must ensure that sanctions against Iran remain in force until the nuclear threat is completely eliminated.

I strongly oppose easing sanctions before the nuclear threat from Iran has been eliminated. Allowing Iran to enrich uranium without being subject to 'anytime, anywhere' inspections is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Iran's nuclear program must be stopped.
