Jerusalem District Police Commander Doron Turgeman presented on Wednesday certificates of appreciation to police officers and Border Police troops who neutralized terrorists in three attacks that took place in the capital the past month.

On September 10, a terrorist arrived in the Old City from the Damascus Gate, where he tried to stab the policeman stationed there. A quick response by one of the policemen who shot the terrorist prevented harm to the lives of the policemen on the spot and led to his immediate neutralization.

During the neutralization of the terrorist, a Border Police troop was lightly wounded.

Three days later, on September 13, a terrorist arrived at a business on Jaffa Street near the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem and stabbed two civilians who were inside. Border police officers who were at the scene during a routine patrol noticed the incident, sought contact and fired at the terrorist, thus neutralizing him and preventing further civilians from being injured.

Last Thursday, September 30, at around 6:30, a female terrorist emerged from the Temple Mount area toward police and Border Police troops stationed near the Chain Gate in the Old City. Her conduct aroused their suspicion and they stopped her for questioning. During the investigation, the terrorist pulled out a knife and tried to stab them, and they immediately responded by firing and neutralizing her.

Turgeman told the six officers that they “acted calmly and courageously to neutralize terrorists who tried to harm you and the civilians. In your activity, you have shown determination and strived for contact in life-threatening situations, situations where a quick decision and translation into immediate action is required within a few seconds.”

“The security challenge requires us to continue to be alert and sharp, at any time and in any mission. Be prepared to neutralize any threat and express everything you have learned and gone through in training, exercises and briefings. You are the protective force of the city of Jerusalem, and thanks to you, the citizens can maintain a safe routine of life knowing that there are those who guard and protect them from any threat,” he said.
