Two apparently Muslim men, both named Mohamed, began a shooting attack at a Canadian nightclub in the wee hours of Sunday morning, wounding a guest.

At 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Mohamed Elmi, 29, and Mohamed Salad, 31 arrived at the entrance to the Ten-X Nightclub and shot a 38-year-old man.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, with serious soft-tissue injury to his upper torso, the Calgary Herald reported. Police and witnesses are crediting the bouncers for courageously jumping the assailant, who was still armed, risking their own lives and preventing what could have been a massacre.

“I don’t have the information for how many shots that firearm was capable of at that time, but we certainly can say their actions stopped what could have been several other injuries,” said Staff Sgt. Brad Glaicar, the Herald reported.

“There’s no doubt in my mind these two guys did save lives. Had they not been there, it would have been a lot worse,” employee Spencer Wallace said of his colleagues. “They grabbed (the suspect) with zero hesitation. They grabbed him after the first shot. The second and third shots went while they wrestled.”

Reports indicate that the assailant shot inside the club from outside, as soon as he reached the front entrance. He was seen arriving in a car with two other men.

Wallace recalls hearing the sound of gunfire, and he “saw a guy hit in the chest. He dropped. Then all hell breaks loose. People start running for any door they can see.”

Security footage shows the “suspect” exiting a vehicle that stopped about 15 feet from the nightclub’s front doors, Wallace said. “You can see the gun in his right hand, it’s not a small pistol. He gets about five feet away from the door, flips his hood up, aims his gun and starts firing.”

The incident was labeled a “senseless and random act of violence” in a statement released Sunday by the nightclub where the shooting occurred, the Herald reported.

Both attackers were charged with attempted murder. A third suspect is still on the loose.

In October 2014, Canada suffered two radical Islamist attacks within three days – one in Ottawa, and the other near Montreal.
