Responding to Netanyahu’s words of appreciation, Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales said that recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “is an honor and it is the right thing to do.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in Washington this week for the AIPAC conference and a meeting with US President Donald Trump, also met with Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, whose country was the first to follow America’s lead in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Netanyahu thanked Morales, to which the Guatemalan leader responded, “It is an honor and it is the right thing to do.”
The two leaders discussed deepening bilateral ties and cooperation, among other issues. Netanyahu also expressed hope that Guatemala will also move its embassy to Jerusalem. Later reports confirmed that, like the US, Guatemala’s embassy will be relocated to the Israeli capital in May.
