Jerusalem’s beloved open-air Mahane Yehuda market finally reopened after two months, signaling a major step in the nation’s gradual return to normal.
Israelis love to shop in open air fruit and vegetable markets and Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehudah Shuk is the perhaps the nation’s most treasured of these wonderlands of fresh produce.
The closure of the shuk was both an economic and emotional blow for Jerusalemites, who pack its stone paths and stalls six days of the week, crowding in on Friday afternoon to purchase food and delicacies for the Sabbath.
The City of Jerusalem reopened the shuk on Thursday, along with similar markets throughout the nation, bringing a sigh of relief to patrons and merchants alike.
