“This weekend was one of the most demanding in my life. We made it,” said Israeli race are driver Alon Day.

Israeli NASCAR driver Alon Day had quite a weekend. The 29-year-old from Ashdod captured the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series record with his 23rd win on Saturday, and he capped off the weekend by claiming his third series championship.
When NASCAR announced the revised Euro Series schedule, Day had to depart Israel to stay in Belgium for the latter months of 2020 due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions.
“2020 was such a hard year for me when I left everything behind in Israel to live in Belgium next to the PK Carsport shop,” Day said. “The dedication was good enough to win the championship this year. It was such a hard time living alone with the lockdown, physically and mentally.
“This weekend was one of the most demanding in my life. We made it. I thank the whole team and I’m a happy boy right now and finally, I’m going home.”

Day tied Ander Vilarino’s record of 22 triumphs on Nov. 15 before claiming the record for himself in Valencia, Spain. On Sunday, Dec. 6, he sealed the deal, taking home the title after winning it all in 2017 and 2018.
He won four contests in 2020, with nine top-five finishes in 10 races.
Day has two starts in NASCAR’s premier division, the Cup Series, in 2017 and 2018. He made headlines across America when he ran near the front of the pack in a NASCAR minor league Xfinity Series race in 2016 in a car that was much older than the competition.
But he has not put together a deal to return to American competition since his final start in 2018. With several road courses on the 2021 schedule, his manager is looking at possible partnerships so that he can compete in the Cup Series once again.
