Meron

Jews returned to the Meron one year after a deadly stampede at the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai during the holiday of Lag B’Omer.

Last year, 45 pilgrims were killed and 150 injured in the crush of people.

Before the lighting of the main bonfire a somber memorial ceremony was held for the victims of the tragedy.

Celebratory bonfires were held across Israel, including the Western Wall.
