Britain increased its national terrorism threat level to “severe,” which means an attack is considered highly likely.

Britain will deploy more than 500 additional police officers to safeguard Jewish communities under a three-year security program worth more than £250 million, approximately $335 million, introduced in response to antisemitic violence and terrorist attacks across the country.

The expanded police presence will cover England and Wales, with officers assigned to areas around synagogues, schools, community centers and Jewish neighborhoods. London will receive around 300 additional officers, while approximately 80 will be deployed in Greater Manchester.

The announcement follows the torching of four Hatzolah ambulances in London and the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green in an attack authorities classified as terrorism.

Britain subsequently increased its national terrorism threat level to “severe,” which means an attack is considered highly likely.

In Greater Manchester, security concerns have remained heightened since two Jewish worshippers were killed in a terrorist attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation. Antisemitic incidents rose immediately across Britain following the attack.

Of the new funding, £86 million has been allocated to London’s Metropolitan Police and £59 million to national counterterrorism policing.

Forces in Hertfordshire, Essex, Sussex, Thames Valley, the West Midlands, West Yorkshire and Northumbria will divide a further £43 million to bolster security in areas with significant Jewish populations.

Project Servator will also continue under the program. The initiative deploys specialist officers, both uniformed and plainclothes, in public spaces to spot suspicious activity and prevent possible attacks. Additional patrols are planned for Jewish holidays, major community events and other times when security risks are considered elevated.

Community Security Trust Chief Executive Mark Gardner said the new investment “comes not a moment too soon.”

The Board of Deputies of British Jews said increased physical security must be accompanied by aggressive prosecutions of people who incite antisemitic hatred and stronger measures targeting extremist networks.

Community Security Trust figures recorded 3,700 antisemitic incidents in Britain in 2025, up 4% and the second-highest annual number since monitoring began.

Antisemitism has remained dramatically elevated since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre in Israel and the war the terrorist organization triggered.
