Israeli security forces raided the homes of terrorists and their families in eastern Jerusalem who continued receiving payments from the Palestinian Authority after being released in hostage deals, the Defense Ministry and Israel Police announced.
The joint operation was carried out by the Defense Ministry’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing, the Jerusalem Police Central Unit and Border Police under seizure orders issued by Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Authorities confiscated property worth hundreds of thousands of shekels, including five vehicles, approximately NIS 96,000 in cash and gold jewelry.
Among those targeted was Muhammad Abd al-Rahman Abad, who was involved in an attempted suicide bombing in Jerusalem in 2002.
Forces also raided the home of Ahed Faiz Ali al-Natsheh, a Hamas terrorist involved in planning a 2001 car bombing in the parking lot of an apartment building in Jerusalem’s Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood. He was also involved in planning an attack at Jerusalem’s Clal Center that wounded two police officers and 10 civilians.
According to the Defense Ministry, the operation targeted security prisoners who are Israeli citizens or residents and were released as part of hostage deals but continued receiving financial payments from the PA for terrorist attacks they committed.
The sanctions were imposed following recommendations from the National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing and in coordination with the Shin Bet and Israel Police.
The operation forms part of Israel’s broader campaign against terrorist organizations, their sources of financing and mechanisms used to provide payments to terrorists and their families.
“The defense establishment, with all of its branches, will continue to exact a heavy price from anyone involved in terrorism or who benefits from terror funds,” the statement said.
