An Ohio man has been charged with threatening to behead Jewish Rep. Randy Fine, kill members of his family and assassinate President Donald Trump, the US Justice Department announced Tuesday.
Alex Justin Miller, 26, of Columbus, Ohio, was charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure over an email allegedly sent to Fine on August 18, the day of the congressman’s primary election.
The Justice Department described the message as a “true threat” against Fine and his family. Miller could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
Fine posted on social about the arrest Tuesday, saying it marked the fourth arrest involving death threats against him in the past 10 years.
He also published a message from Miller containing vulgar language and threats to set the congressman’s family home on fire, behead Fine and kill Trump.
The email called Fine a “Nazi” and warned him to “sleep with one eye open ” because Miller would “never stop until [his] head is hanging from the rooftops of the White House.”
“DEATH TO RANDY FINE AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP!!!,” the email concluded.
Fine thanked the US Attorney’s Office of Middle Florida, the FBI, Capitol Police and local law enforcement for their work in the case in a post on X/Twitter on Tuesday.
“If they think this will make me afraid, they are wrong,” Fine wrote.
“There is no place in our political system for this. And those who make these threats, whether to a Republican or Democrat, will go to prison for a very long time.”
