London police are investigating an antisemitic hate crime after three 14-year-old Jewish schoolboys were verbally abused and two were physically assaulted by a man aboard a bus in north London on September 10, 2026.
The attack occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. near Sanders Lane in Mill Hill as the boys were traveling.
Police said the suspect, described as a white British man, directed antisemitic abuse and hate speech at all three before physically attacking two of them.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s new Community Protection Team are investigating and examining CCTV footage obtained from bus operator Metroline as they work to identify and locate the suspect.
“Urgent enquiries are ongoing to trace and identify the suspect linked to this incident. The suspect is believed to be a white British man,” Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in the area, said, according to Jewish News.
Williams said the Met had increased patrols around Jewish communities ahead of the Jewish High Holy Days, including Rosh Hashanah.
“The Met will not tolerate antisemitism in any form and we will respond robustly to any and all offences that occur,” Williams said.
“Our Jewish communities have the right to celebrate and observe the upcoming High Holy Days without fear of antisemitic hate.
“During this important period of peace, we have increased our patrols in order to provide reassurance, deter those who seek to cause harm and help ensure people can come together with confidence.”
Transport for London also condemned the attack.
“Everyone has the right to travel around London without facing discrimination, and we stand united against hate in all its forms. This incident sounds horrific, and we are very sorry to the boys who experienced this,” said Siwan Hayward, TfL’s director of security, policing and enforcement.
The Community Security Trust and Board of Deputies of British Jews also condemned the assault, saying children should not face violence or abuse while traveling to school. Both organizations are working with the victims’ school and police to provide support.
