Two terror attacks were thwarted Tuesday thanks to the diligence of Israel’s security forces.

A terrorist was shot by IDF soldiers Tuesday when he tried to run them down with his car as they were manning a checkpoint near the Ayal Crossing near the center of Israel. The terrorist was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

The incident occurred as soldiers spotted a group of Arabs trying to enter Israel illegally. Another Arab was lightly wounded by gunfire.

Earlier the same day, two Arabs were reportedly caught by Israeli security forces while on their way to a suicide attack in the Sharon area in central Israel.

Following intelligence obtained by the Shabak (Israel Security Agency), a manhunt was launched in search of a terrorist or car bomb reportedly on the way to execute a suicide attack.

“We are treating the alert with much seriousness, and have therefore deployed large forces to the field,” a police source from the Central Division told Walla! news site. Police forces deployed roadblocks and checked cars individually, generating heavy traffic jams on main routes. At some point the police focused their efforts on the town of Tnuvot, shutting off all exits from the town.

Later on in the day the police announced that all was well, as “the threat of an infiltration incident has been lifted and everyone can return to normal.” Two men in a car were arrested and are being questioned.

The Latest in a Series of Foiled Attacks

This incident is the latest in a series of attempted terrorist attacks foiled by Israel’s security forces, as Palestinian terrorists boosted their efforts to target Israelis during Operation Protective Edge. Border Police caught a car bomb driven by a terrorist at a checkpoint near Beitar at the end of July. Earlier that month, security officers of the Checkpoints Authority arrested an Arab who was transporting a bomb in his car en route to carrying out a terror attack in Israel. One of the officers noticed a bag between the driver’s legs, inside which was a gas balloon connected to electric wires. The driver later admitted that he had been on his way to carry out an attack.
